Meet the Team

A photograph of Corey Lane, Director and principal surveyor at Hawksmoor Stuart Associates. Corey is a conservation technical specialist who has spent the last 15 years of his career helping to safeguard some of the UK' most vulnerable heritage.

Corey Lane - Director

Corey is a Building Surveyor, conservation technical specialist and the driving force behind Hawksmoor Stuart Associates Ltd. With over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry, the last 15 years of which have been within the heritage sector, Corey specialises in the survey, repair and adaptation of traditional buildings and heritage assets. His work focuses on building pathology, material analysis and conservation led repair, whilst his research specialism is the historic application of lime surface finishes to timber framed buildings.

A certified Master Carpenter & Joiner by training, Corey also holds postgraduate qualifications in building surveying and the conservation of the historic environment. He combines practical craft expertise with academic knowledge and professional experience, enabling a detailed understanding of traditional materials, construction techniques and building performance.

Corey has previously held senior positions within private practice, local authority and national heritage organisations. Formerly a Senior Conservation Officer with Shropshire Council, he has also worked for English Heritage, an organisation in which he contributed to the management and conservation of buildings held within the national collection. 

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Carpenters, an Expert Member of ICOMOS’ International Wood Committee and is widely recognised for his expertise in timber framed buildings, joinery products and the assessment and repair of flood-damaged properties. Alongside his professional work, Corey contributes to national and regional committees, advises on heritage guidance and regularly lectures on building conservation and the use traditional materials. 

When not on site or at his desk, Corey can be found in his workshop in the woods, a space within the Wyre Forest’s Ruskin Land where he continues to share his craft with others and drink tea.
